Intensely aromatic — violet, blackcurrant, distant wood smoke and tart blackberry fruit on the nose. The palate arrives with exquisite freshness and firm structure, unfolding dark cherry, cassis, oriental spices and strawberry. Fine, powdery tannins run through the wine with a whisper of nutty oak from 13 months in French barrels. The finish echoes with smoke and apple pip. From a unique vineyard surrounded on three sides by the merging Kawarau and Clutha rivers in Central Otago — biodynamic, hand-harvested, wild yeast fermented, unfined and unfiltered.
