Emrich Schonleber, Monzinger Riesling Kabinett
The Emrich-Schönleber estate has been around for over 250 years, but it wasn’t until the 1960’s that it began to focus exclusively on wine. Werner Schönleber took over the family estate in the 1970’s and expanded the vineyard holdings around the town of Monzingen, particularly in two vineyards: Halenberg and Frühlingsplätzchen. Today Werner oversees the vineyard while his son, Frank, runs the winery. The Emrich-Schönleber wines are some of the best that are made in not only the Nahe, but all of Germany. They focus on Riesling, and the dedication in the vineyards and the cellar shines through in all of their bottles.
The Schönleber family is behind the Emrich Schönleber wines. We work together to ensure that the high expectations placed on our wines are met year after year and ideally exceeded. The intensive, detailed work naturally starts in the vineyard. It is thanks to Werner Schönleber’s more than forty years of professional experience that the vineyards are cultivated in an ideal manner. He has a feel for when and how the work is to be carried out. This is important because every year brings new challenges. There are no magic recipes.
The Riesling Kabinett Monzinger by Emrich-Schonleber is a bright expression of the Nahe region from the Monzingen village. It is an elegant and very mineral white wine, characterized by scents of spices and yellow fruits. It is a blend of fruit from the Halenberg and Frühlingsplätzchen vineyards. On the nose aromas of soft fruit and garden herbs waft enticingly out of the glass. On the palate it is clean, fresh and rich, with a light and well-integrated sweetness. A solid, stony minerality pervades the wine, softening the intensity of the fruit and giving a rich, dry finish. Enjoy with fried chicken or fish and chips.
