Luigi Righetti Capitel de Roari, Amarone della Valpolicella


Located in Valgatara, is located in the centre of the  ‘Valpolicella Classico’ area. The Luigi Righetti estate is a small, family run winery created by Angelo Righetti in 1909. Angelo soon gained a reputation as an outstanding winemaker. The family has focussed on producing quality wines offering extremely good value. The family has followed these principles and Gian Maria Righetti is now a fifth generation winemaker carrying on the family tradition. The brand name was established by Gian Maria’s father, Luigi. Luigi took over winemaking in the 40’s and was the first in the family to consider production beyond supply of local demand. Today, Luigi is still active in the estate’s day to day operations and Gian Maria, took over winemaking responsibilities in 1985 and this remains a classic family run vineyard.

Luigi Righetti Capitel De Roari Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico is a dry, full and rich wine that is also velvety and elegant. It has intense and persistent flavours of ripe, dark cherries, violets, sweet spices and toast. The aromas will develop in the glass so it’s a good idea to open a bottle a few hours before serving. In local Veronese dialect, “Roari” means oak tree and the name of Luigi Righetti’s select Capitel De Roari Amarone Della Valpolicella derives from the many oak trees that line the various vineyard plots. This area, in the heart of Valpolicella Classico region north-west of Verona, is unique for its hills, sun exposure, soil and climate. All of these factors allow the grapes to ripen very slowly. Not until October are the grapes ready to be hand-harvested, and only the sweetest grapes are used for this Amarone. The small bunches are left to dry for 3 to 4 months to further concentrate their flavours and sugars. After fermentation, the Luigi Righetti Capitel De Roari Amarone Della Valpolicella matures in oak casks and barriques for at least 3 years.
