L’Ancienne Mercerie, Au Bonheur des Dames

The story is family, confused with that of Languedoc. Today, the area of the former haberdashery cultivates 16 ha of vines, mainly on the shale of Faugères (Hérault). Bio is for them an obvious, so that the soil can largely express itself in grapes and wine. Without fundamentalism, but without compromise either. The grape harvests are manual, the yeasts indigenous, and very little sulphites, grapes healthy and ripe, but not too much. It is the wine that is at the center of the couple’s concerns. Each year they take certain risks to be able to understand their terroir and progress in the way of transcribing vintages after vintages.

This is certainly the easiest to drink and the most greedy of the field. A material all round and very fine tannins. Easy to drink, but not easy to make, this wine is among the most capricious to produce, but when it is successful as this year we enjoy! This wine comes from their two parcels classified AOC Coteaux du Languedoc located on hillsides bordering the appellation Faugères: the soil is no longer schisteux but clay/ siliceous and limestone in depth. We are looking for this wine with the spirit of Languedoc wines, flexible and greedy. But behind this apparent ease, it is a wine on fruit and finesse, where Grenache and Mourvèdre together express a real originality.
